Cairns joins Earth Hour 2008
Saturday March 29th 8-9PM

Cairns City Council, Douglas Shire Council, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Ergon and the Cairns Post have all got behind Earth Hour 2008 in recognition of the need to show leasership in our community on the issue of climate change.  Earth Hour is an event founded by WWF Australia and was launched in 2007 in Sydney, where participants turned off their lights for an hour between 8-9pm on the day.  This year a growing number of cities, organisations, companies and individuals are getting behind the event in an expression of support for meaningful action on climate change.
Regional Leaders aim for higher emissions reduction targets than nations
Delegates attending the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) conference heard today that the international leadership of sub-national governments is fast emerging as one of the most important levers in the worldwide effort to combat climate change.
